Announcing Good News!

Dr. Skip Bell Program Director
Why is it that only bad news is considered news? We also need to share good news! And our Seminary assessment office has told us to share some of that−the results of an annual assessment of the Doctor of Ministry program. So here goes…
Participants rated the depth and rigor of the program as high or very high (96% did so). The same response was received for the
practical application of program learning, and they gave like numbers to faculty, knowledge gained, and developing their proficiency for service. Ninety-two percent said the program deepened knowledge and understanding of scripture, rating it 4 or 5 on a 5-point scale in that area.
Notes From DMin Alumni
Over the summer, we received affirming notes from two women who hold Andrews DMin degrees:
Dr. Elena Zhigankova (graduated 2008) is now a on the faculty at AIIAS in the Philippines. Her husband, Oleg (PhD Religion, 2000), is also at AIIAS, teaching in the Theology-History department.
Dr. Jessica Trevithick (graduated May, 2012), who lives in California, has been visiting her homeland of Australia this past summer. She has been a guest speaker for events at Avondale College, and was interviewed on the Australia Hope Channel. (See the interview at https://vimeo.com/47477217/).

Macksville celebrates women
Highlights of the weekend included “vision board” collages made by participants in response to speakers’ messages, and the impromptu talks given by women about their experiences while working for the gospel, both here and in other countries. The vision boards emphasised the value of a safe and supportive spiritual environment for women to express themselves, strengthen relationships and make new friendships.
Participants also knitted a “never-ending” scarf symbolising women’s interconnectedness and role in ministering to the world, which will be continued at further retreats.

Women’s Ministries Day at Macksville

The best way to find out how an event that you organised went is to ask the participants. These are some of the responses of the forty women who attended the fourth annual Macksville SDA Church Women’s Retreat at Stuarts Point Convention Centre on November 21, 2020. This year’s retreat was held on one day, due to the prevailing health advice. In a year of Zoom meetings, the organising team stepped out in faith and planned a face to face event. Many prayers were answered to enable a successful day, with speakers Bronwyn Mison and Dr Jessica Trevithick addressing the theme, ‘Survive and Thrive’. In the afternoon, participants attended five sensory stations engaging God’s and their own creativity.

Women uplifted at Avondale Memorial Church retreat
Around 70 women aged between 15 and 80 gathered at Stuarts Point Convention Centre (NSW) for the Avondale Memorial Church women’s retreat from June 3 to 5. The weekend-long program featured special messages, worship and a variety of activities.
Based on Romans 8:37, guest speaker Lea-Anne Smith’s presentation, themed “More than Conquerors”, highlighted the need for faith, hope and love in the current times. Psychologist Jessica Bishop’s presentation “Conquering with Balance” enabled a self-assessment of attendees’ thinking styles.
Attendees also enjoyed worship led by Marcha Williams and a humorous play directed by Dr Jessica Trevithick about Bible characters Deborah and Jael in Judges 4.
